Ever since she hit the American Idol stage Fantasia has been known for her short laid locks. This Hairspiration post is dedicated to Fantasia Barrino because her her hair is always on point. I love that she switches things up every now then with the lengths and layers.
I want to start documenting my journey as an esthetician. I kinda wish I would have started when I was in school but I can always share later on how my experience was in esthetics school but for now I want to take you all on a little ride and hopefully give some hope to new estheticians like my self on finding a job after school and what to expect.
So for this Road to Esthetics I want to catch you all up on what’s been going on in my life for the past 3 months. In August, I completed my esthetics program and signed up to take the state board exams. Way before graduating I started looking and thinking about where I wanted to work (best decision EVER). By doing so I was able to get a vision in my head, which I often do with my goals in life. By September, I received my temporary license which meant I could start applying for jobs. But right before I received my temporary license my manager informed me that another store was hiring for a beauty advisor. I told her I would think about it because it wasn’t really what I had imagined myself working after school. So I started applying for jobs and got an interview for one of the places I had wanted to work. Well a week went by and I hadn’t heard anything from them so I figured they didn’t want to hire me so I agreed to accept the beauty advisor position (they called for a 2nd interview right after I accepted the other position smh). The beauty advisior position actually turned out to have way more benefits, it is higher pay, full time, they are paying for me to fly to Florida for a beauty expo, and has health benefits. So I started working on Monday of this week but nothing was really set up so next week will be my first day actually working with the products will be when I get back from Florida. While filling out applications I also applied for a brow bar type of spa. And long story short I interviewed and got the job the other day! I was so excited to find out that a place like that would be interested in hiring someone like me fresh out of school. I haven’t started yet but we are putting the final touches on everything.
Oh and how could I forget in September I took both my practical and written exams and passed them both with flying colors! I did really well on both tests and I am so proud of myself for studying hard and paying attention in class.
So what’s to come for the next couple of months….. WORK, WORK, WORK. I am going to be working my butt off and trying to learn as much as I can from both jobs to better myself as an esthetician and makeup artist.

I just had to come on and do a quick post on the new All Fired Up lipstick from MAC. I got it yesterday and as soon I purchased it, I put it on and fell madly in love! I wore it all day yesterday and into today (I went out last night and didn’t take my makeup off) that’s how much I was feeling this lipstick.
It’s a retro matte lipstick which basically means it’s a little more drying than most MAC lipsticks but gives off amazing color payoff. Yall know already from my videos that I don’t like glossy lipsticks I have always preferred matte because you get more of an opaque color. To me my lips are already full so I don’t like to bring a whole lot of attention to the size of my lips but more so the color….if that makes any kind of sense lol. So I don’t mind wearing matte lipsticks that are drying because the effect it gives on my lips out weighs everything. And because All Fired Up isn’t one of those extremely pale or extremely bright lipsticks, like Candy Yum Yum, it makes it a wonderful color to throw on for the day or night. I would describe the color of All Fired Up as bright fuchsia. At night I paired the lipstick with NYX’s lipliner in Bloom (not pictured below) to help define my lips more.
If you haven’t tried the All Fired Up or any of the lipsticks from the Retro Matte Collection at MAC, I suggest you hurry up and go try them. Many of the lipsticks from the collection, which is also permanent, were sold out. I got lucky because All Fired Up was one of the two retro matte lipsticks that I needed to have in my life was still available…well until I purchased the last one from the counter hehe
Disclaimer: The retro matte lipsticks just like any other matte lipstick are drying and can bring out chapped lips, so be sure to exfoliate and moisturize well before applying!
How to tell what your skin type is:
- Your pores are just right! There is a good balance with oil production. Normal skin tends to have few blemishes so to help maintain the skin’s appearance be sure to set up and follow a good skin care regimen.
- Your pores are small or hard to see and you have minimal oil production. Dry skin lacks oil so it’s important to use products that will help moisturize and help retain the oils.
- Your pores are large all over and you have excessive amount of oil production. Oily skin is prone to more blemishes because of it oil production. So it’s important to cleanse, exfoliate, tone, and moisturize on a regular basis. DON’T OVER EXFOLIATE THOUGH!
- Your a combination of both dry and oily or combination of normal and dry or oily. For combination oily skin, pores tend to be a bit larger in the T-zone which means more oil.
As many of you have probably already seen I recently got my hair cut shorter from the tapered twa and also got a relaxer….gasp deeply! Ok so many probably didn’t know I got a relaxer. I relaxed my hair about 3 weeks ago not because I hated my natural hair but because I really have been LOVING short haircuts all year ago. Before going back to the creamy crack, I research a lot about having short straight hair and if it would be possible to stay natural. From what I saw and from my experience so far, yeah it wouldn’t be possible, my hair was just toooo curly and I wouldn’t probably end up using way more heat. So I did it and so far so good!
For this Hairspiration feature, I chose Megan Good’s short cut. Like I said before I love short hair right now so when searching for hot short haircuts I constantly came across her short hair. I love everything about her hair; it’s shine, thickness, body and most importantly her cut. The tapered back and short sides get me every time! Pretty soon I’ll be needing a hair cut (my hair grows so fast) and when I get it I will definitely be bringing her pictures to show my stylist.
The other day I asked on my facebook page what type of makeup tutorials you guys wanted to see, well I got several suggestions for drugstore and beginner friendly makeup. So today I went out and picked up some makeup for some future videos. One of the palettes I picked up was the Rimmel London Glam Eyes Quad in 003 Smokey Purple. For $3.99 I thought this would be perfect for a tutorial. In the pan these shadows look promising but when you swatch without a good sticky base they pretty much have no pigmentation on darker skin. I swatched the four shadows over NYX Eyeshadow Base which is pretty much the exact same thing as their Jumbo Pencil in Milk.
I was able to film a makeup tutorial using the shadows and to my surprise it came out quite nice! The colors look good together, they blended fairly well, they stayed on for hours, they’re not chalky like most inexpensive eyeshadows. If you’re a beginner, there’s a little guide on the back which tells you where to place the shadows.
The only downside to these shadows is that they don’t photograph very well.In person, the colors on my eyes looked like a purple-blue but in pictures they changed to a purple grey color, especially the darkest color in quad. Again the color pay off sucks unless you use a sticky base.
All the eyeshadows in the quad are shimmery with no chunky glitter. I must say I do like the finish of these shadows because they have a almost duo chrome finish to them and they’re not overly shimmery.
At Target, this quad was $3.99 before tax.
I’m sure you can pick this quad up from any drugstore or makeup store that sells Rimmel London makeup.
If you’re thinking about picking up this palette PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT YOU NEED TO HAVE SOMETIME OF BASE UNDER THESE SHADOWS OR YOU WILL NOT GET MUCH COLOR PAYOFF. Although I really liked how my eye makeup came out, I don’t think I’ll be buying anymore of these quads.
